Syfy has confirmed it will not be taking Ascension to series, cancelling the drama after one six-episode event designed to serve as a potential ‘back-door pilot’ to an ongoing series (ala BSG), Deadline reports.
Ascension will now stand as a one-off miniseries unless another network picks it up.
Said Syfy:
“We were very happy with Ascension as an event series, but with so much high profile development in the works, we have decided not to pursue a full series.”
RIP.

This is a real bummer. This “mini-series” event was just openingon a whole new layer episode by episode – a witty development, maybe too brilliant for today’s decision-makers. This had all the essential elements that define what a Sci-fi” and “Space” series is. Just not understandable….Had this series been given a chance, it could have ended up being a major sci-fi series for many years to come…Remember the initial Star Trek series, or the X-files? They stil support large Comicons although they aren’t running. Talk about a missed opportunity!

Hmmmm. Really liked this show. Seems kind of backward to continue making crap and canceling the good stuff

More bad decisions by TV execs. They seem to be morons.

They need to make room for the WWE on the scifi channel! 😐 (face palm)

Really enjoyed the show had a Truman feel to it, but not. Sad to hear it will not be a series b

I didn’t catch it until I saw it on Netflix. I think this could have ended up with a good following and fanbase if it had been allowed a season to get in the groove. I wanted more of this story. Sad to see there won’t be more.

FABULOUS SERIES POTENTIAL in “Ascension,” not realized because of this COWARDLY CANCELLATION!”
It was all summed up in the very last line of the last Episode:
“IT WORKS!”
